Delivery How-tos

To request extra totes or to ask any question at all about deliveries, send an email with the word Delivery or Tote (not crate, not box, not tub) in the subject line to sharedsystem@indypl.org.  Tell us how many you need, too! Your emails go to our office and to two people in Shipping & Receiving so we don’t miss your question!

The tote drop-off and pick-up site should be as close to the front door as possible. Totes should be left where someone will be able to watch them, rather than in an empty area where anyone could open them and help themselves to the contents.

Delivery drivers should not have to climb stairs, nor should they have to walk all the way around a building to get to your front door. Think of them as UPS drivers, please, and make accommodations for their quick entry and departure.

The delivery schedule is posted here. Note that timing may differ from day to day depending on traffic, the quantity of totes being delivered ahead of you, and other locations’ schedules.

Our drivers make every effort to keep you informed of any unusual circumstances. Please do the same thing for them! You can use the form below to let us know:

If the tote is requests and/or returns from other libraries it will come to you with your school location code, for ex., IP54, on the top of the tote tag and S&R upside down on the bottom.  To indicate that you are sending the tote back to IndyPL, flip the card so S&R is on the top of the tag.

If you are sending in problems that need to be addressed by cataloging and processing, then use the tote tags that have CMSA on the top of the card.  When we return them to you, the tag will have your location code at the top.

  • if your school closes abruptly on a normal delivery day
  • if your parking lot is going to be resurfaced
  • if it’s a teacher in-service day and no one will be in the office
  • if you know of anything that would interrupt the normal flow of pick up and delivery.
