Blocks and Notes are used on borrower accounts for a variety of reasons and require staff to acknowledge prior to checking out, placing holds, etc.
Blocks
Blocks are either generated by LEAP for account charges or expired library cards, but can also be placed on the account by Library Staff for the following issues: verifying an address, update borrower information, suspended borrower privileges, or online registration.
The Blocks icon is a red closed lock if the patron has blocks that prevent circulation or a green open lock if the patron has no blocks.
A block will not prevent you from opening the record – it will appear at Check Out or when placing a Hold.
To view a patron’s blocks, click Blocks red lock icon
To see who added a block, check mark the block and view Properties
To add a block, click the blue “Add Block” button. Select the appropriate block from the drop down list. Click the green “Add” button.
Library staff assigned blocks can be deleted, but clicking the box next to the block and then “Delete.” Polaris LEAP assigned blocks cannot be deleted and only disappear after the issue is resolved (library card renewed, charges paid, etc.)
Blocks will pop up during checkout and should be resolved if at all possible. Library staff will be able to continue checking out to the patron at their discretion.
Choosing continue will allow you to checkout or place holds for the patron even though they have blocks on their account. Choosing Cancel will give you the option to resolve the blocks.
Notes
Notes are similar to Blocks, but are free text and can be blocking or non-blocking. Examples of notes include things like:
- Borrower returned case without DVD
- Borrower left item in book
- Borrower has duplicate card (include card number) – used in cases when cards cannot be merged
Lnotes produce a Yellow Notes icon. Blocking Notes produce a Red Notes Icon.
Click “Notes” to add, view or delete a note.
After updating a note, click “Update Notes”
To see properties or delete the note, click the small icons above the note
Notes will appear at checkout and when placing holds.
Click “Continue” to checkout. Click “Cancel” to view/resolve the note.
